District 12 supports community-minded quilters in 2020

Mar 23, 2022

It takes a group effort to stitch together the fabric of a community. A $4,000 grant from District 12 Norfolk will help the Norfolk County Quilters’ Guild to donate quilts, afghans and clothing to local social service agencies.

The Norfolk County Quilters’ Guild distributes what they make to those in need. That includes women in shelters, the Salvation Army, Children’s Aid, Camp Trillium (for children with cancer), teens who can’t live at home any longer, and more.

“The quilts let those who are less fortunate know that they are cared for and loved,” says Alfred Guidolin, president, District 12 Norfolk.

Guild members often get help from people who donate their fabric stash. The RTOERO donation will fund rolls of batting and rentals of long-arm quilting machines to make the quilts. This also supports the guild members, who are mostly seniors, to socialize, learn quilting skills and come together for a community cause.

The RTOERO grant is timely, as the Guild can’t do a major fundraiser this year because of COVID.

The District 12 funding is part of RTOERO’s annual Community Grants program.
